PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls Is Too Simple for Its Own Good

by Salal Awan

PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls is the newest adventure and the latest licensed product from Outright Games. Is this worth your time?

I haven’t seen the Paw Patrol movie although I am vaguely familiar with the TV show. It appears to be popular enough for kids that there was a larger-budget movie made for it. This is being released alongside a game that is published by “THQ Lite”, or in other words, Outright Games. This publisher has single-handily brought back the licensed video games market along with THQ Nordic.

While it is nice to see that we are still getting games based on popular licensed properties, they are unfortunately not quite entertaining to play. Their target demographic is also kids, so adults will just get bored with them.

This new Paw Patrol game was developed by Drakhar Studio. I actually haven’t heard about them but based on their Twitter bio, they appear to be located in Madrid, Spain. They developed this new Paw Patrol, and let’s just say that they got the project out in time and on so many platforms so we should appreciate their work.

Is PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls Worth Buying?

Do you want to buy it and want to know if it’s any good? The answer to this question is dependent on whether or not you have ever played a video game. If you have a child who is new to video games and likes Paw Patrol, I believe this is a fantastic present. It’s a basic game with few sophisticated controls in which you go about collecting items like dog crackers and Paw Patrol badges. It’s also a rather short adventure, although there’s some replay value in collecting all crackers and badges if that’s what you’re looking for.

Each level consists of you managing two of the Paw Patrol pups and switching between them based on their particular skills to get to the next stage. You also get to play a simple “Subway Surfer”-style stage in which you just go in a three-direction lane and collect, guess what, dog crackers. Or, at least, that’s what I believe these collectibles are called, so please forgive me if they’re called something else in the game.

I also encountered several problems when playing this game. The NPC pup began acting erratically throughout a level when there was a cinematic or special skill task, and I have also encountered the NPC pup getting caught behind a barricade simply because they spawned incorrectly. The game crashing on the PS4 was the most serious issue for me. I was likewise trapped by a bug when I entered the minigames menu and couldn’t get out of it. I’m not sure if it was feasible to prevent this problem because I didn’t try it again. I should point you that I did all of this on a PS4 Pro.

So, what’s the final word? PAW Patrol The Movie: Adventure City Calls felt more satisfying to me than its predecessors. It still adheres to the same formula of repetitive gameplay. Again, as previously stated, I am not the intended audience, and I believe that children who are new to gaming would like it more.
