Tales of Arise is one of the most successful games released by Bandai Namco on Steam. It is a pretty impressive debut next to the Souls series.
Tales of series continues to debut on the same day and date on Steam as other platforms, but it is not until Arise was released that the series exploded in popularity. It has now managed to become the JRPG with the most concurrent players at launch. It is just behind MMOs in terms of the concurrent player count after hitting a peak of 53K and counting this weekend.
Tales of Arise surpassed Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Nioh 2: Complete Edition, and Persona 4 Golden among other recent releases. It debuted to almost twice the concurrent player count than these games, which speaks for its success. It also debuted to almost 4x the players of Scarlet Nexus, which was the last major JRPG by Bandai Namco that debuted on Steam earlier this year.
Steam is quickly becoming an extremely lucrative platform for Japanese developers. Tales of Arise has received rave reviews so far, making it one of the best JRPGs in the series, and even for this year. The positive critical reception and word of mouth are likely going to contribute to its sales. Games like Final Fantasy XV, Persona 4 Golden, and Nier Automata had a lot of success on Steam despite late launches and sold upwards of 1 million. Perhaps it is time for Tales of Arise to achieve the same effect and get up to 1 million sales.
Tales of Arise is available now for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC. The game also had a demo available on consoles and apparently doesn’t have Denuvo on PC.
