Naughty Dog is currently working on a remake of The Last of Us and assisting Sony Bend on a new Uncharted game according to a report from Bloomberg.
In this new report, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier goes behind the new strategy for Sony Worldwide Studios which is to focus on their tentpole franchise while avoiding taking risks. The company is currently having their Visual Arts Service Group work with Naughty Dog on The Last of Us Remake. In addition to this, they are also working on a brand new Uncharted with support from Sony Bend Studio and assistance from Naughty Dog.
Sony Bend Studio had pitched a sequel to Days Gone but the top leadership at that time declined it due to the tepid critical reception and production issues that the studio faced during the development of Days Gone. They were finally allowed to create their own new game this year after working as a support studio for Naughty Dog on their multiplayer project, and a new Uncharted game.
The most surprising thing is how Sony has greenlighted a remake of The Last of Us which was out in 2013. This remake is being led by Naughty Dog and assisted by Visual Arts Service Group at Sony. It was originally started in 2018 and their aim is to create the first game with the same visuals and gameplay changes as the recently launched sequel. This could go well with the upcoming HBO show based on TLOU IP. This will star Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin is the lead writer of this show.
The Last of Us was originally released back in 2013 for the PS3. It was later remastered for the PS4 with support for 60 FPS in 2014. It was followed by Part II which was released in 2020.
