KOEI TECMO America and developer Gust have officially unveiled Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories, the next entry in the long-running Atelier RPG series. The game is currently in development and is scheduled to launch in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The newly announced adventure takes players back to the continent of Aladiss, a setting first introduced in Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. This time, the story follows Karia, a young alchemist suffering from amnesia who embarks on a journey to uncover her forgotten past. Accompanied by Servio Lektor, a biologist considered a heretic by many, and the skilled fighter Fina Rozen, Karia explores the mysterious underground regions of Aladiss in search of answers. Along the way, she receives guidance from Yumia Liessfeldt as she works to strengthen her alchemical abilities and recover her memories.
Alchemy remains a central pillar of the experience, with Gust introducing a synthesis system designed to offer greater flexibility and experimentation. Players will use a special alchemy cauldron found deep beneath Aladiss to create items by combining ingredients and connecting mana pieces. The arrangement and selection of materials can alter an item’s properties, opening the door to numerous combinations and outcomes.
One of the most notable additions in Atelier Karia is a new gameplay mechanic centered on food and ingredient consumption. While gathering resources, players can immediately consume materials they discover, triggering temporary effects and special traits. Gust highlighted examples such as gaining animal-like characteristics and unique abilities after eating certain ingredient types, creating a new layer of exploration and character customization.
Combat also builds upon the systems introduced in Atelier Yumia. The new battle mechanics combine real-time action with tactical decision-making, allowing players to parry enemy attacks while also pausing combat to issue commands, use skills, and deploy items through menu-based controls. The result is a hybrid system that blends fast-paced encounters with strategic planning.
Alchemy’s role extends beyond combat as well. Synthesized items can be used during exploration to unlock new pathways, discover hidden treasures, solve environmental challenges, and gather additional materials. Players will also be able to use crafted items while constructing and improving bases, adding another dimension to progression and resource management.
KOEI TECMO and Gust have released an announcement trailer alongside the reveal, offering an early look at Karia’s adventure and the world of Aladiss. Atelier Karia: The Night Kingdom & the Guide of Memories is scheduled to launch in early 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
