Square Enix has released new details on Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, confirming a worldwide launch date of December 3, 2026 and revealing additional information about the game’s characters, monster-collecting systems, and post-launch content.
The latest entry in the long-running monster RPG series is set to launch simultaneously on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Pre-orders are available now across supported platforms, while digital pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch will open at a later date.
The game’s protagonists will be familiar faces to longtime Dragon Quest fans. Bianca and Nera, characters originally featured in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, take center stage in this new adventure. Bianca is described as an energetic and dependable companion who looks after those around her, while Nera is known for her compassionate nature and willingness to help others whenever possible.
Their story revolves around a quest to find the legendary Leaves of Light, a mysterious remedy believed to be capable of curing their ailing fathers. As they travel across a diverse world, the pair must overcome their differences while facing a variety of challenges and dangers. Along the way, they are joined by several companions, including Debora, Fluffy, and Fizzy, each playing a role in the journey.
As expected from a Dragon Quest Monsters title, monster recruitment and party building remain at the core of the gameplay. Players can recruit creatures encountered throughout the world and deploy them in battle, while also combining monsters through synthesis to create stronger allies. Square Enix confirmed that more than 500 monsters will be available to collect, including returning favorites from across the Dragon Quest franchise as well as newly introduced creatures.
The publisher also outlined four DLC packs that will be available alongside the game’s launch. These include Mega Mole Hole, Monster Marathons, Metallic Ring, and Scout Run VIP Card. Each pack is designed to provide additional content and gameplay benefits for Bianca and Nera’s adventure. Players will also have the option of purchasing all four expansions together through the DLC 4-ITEM SET bundle.
