Square Enix has confirmed that Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will launch on Dec. 3, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Windows.
The upcoming RPG was originally unveiled during Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Day celebration last month and serves as the latest entry in the long-running Dragon Quest Monsters series. This new installment will feature a roster of more than 500 monsters, combining returning fan favorites with a large selection of new creatures for players to recruit and battle alongside.
Set in the world of Witherwood, the game follows two protagonists, Bianca and Nera, as they set out on a quest to restore life to a land that has fallen into decline. Square Enix says the adventure will feature a story-driven journey while retaining the monster-collecting and team-building mechanics that the series is known for.
In addition to its expanded monster lineup, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will introduce enhanced visuals compared to previous entries in the franchise. The game aims to provide an accessible starting point for newcomers, with Square Enix noting that players will not need prior experience with earlier Dragon Quest Monsters titles to follow the story or enjoy the gameplay.
