THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive have announced that Gothic 1 Remake has surpassed 500,000 copies sold within its first week on the market across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The milestone comes shortly after the remake’s launch, marking a strong debut for the modern reimagining of Piranha Bytes’ classic 2001 RPG. Alongside its sales performance, the game has also generated significant activity on Steam. According to the developers, Gothic 1 Remake reached a peak of nearly 78,000 concurrent players on Valve’s platform on June 7.
Player feedback has also been positive so far. The game has accumulated more than 15,000 user reviews on Steam and currently holds an 85% “Very Positive” rating. The developers credited the success to both newcomers and the franchise’s long-time fanbase, thanking players for their support of the series over the past 25 years.
Alkimia Interactive stated that ongoing support for Gothic 1 Remake is planned, with further updates and improvements expected in the coming weeks and months as the studio continues refining the experience.
Originally released in 2001, Gothic established itself as a cult RPG thanks to its immersive world design, faction-based progression system, and reactive open-world structure. The remake rebuilds the original adventure using modern technology while aiming to preserve the atmosphere and core identity that made the game a fan favorite.
The story takes place in the Kingdom of Myrtana, where a magical barrier created to contain prisoners working in the Khorinis mines spirals out of control, trapping everyone inside. As order collapses and rival factions compete for power, players assume the role of the Nameless Hero, a newly arrived prisoner whose actions will shape the fate of the Colony.
According to THQ Nordic, the remake features more than 50 hours of gameplay, a living world populated by NPCs following daily routines, a branching storyline built around three joinable factions, and a modernized combat system designed to remain faithful to the deliberate and tactical nature of the original game.
Gothic 1 Remake is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
