Game Freak and publisher Fictions shared new information about their upcoming action RPG Beast of Reincarnation during the PC Gaming Show, including the first members of the game’s Japanese voice cast and additional details about its story and gameplay systems ahead of launch.
The developer confirmed that acclaimed voice actress Yui Ishikawa will play protagonist Emma. The announcement was accompanied by a new interview featuring game director Kota Furushima, who discussed the title’s narrative themes, combat design, worldbuilding, and character progression. Beast of Reincarnation is scheduled to launch on August 4, 2026, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S through Xbox Game Pass on day one. Physical editions will also be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch.
According to Furushima, the game’s various elements, including its story, combat mechanics, visual design, audio, technology, and voice performances, have been developed to create a unified experience. He explained that the story centers on Emma, a young woman who has lost both her memories and emotions, and her unlikely companion, Coo. Despite circumstances that suggest the two should be enemies, they set out together on a journey driven by Emma’s desire to understand what emotions truly are.
The director also highlighted the game’s combat system, which combines real-time sword-based action with strategic commands issued to Coo. Players will need to make use of the pair’s unique partnership in battle, blending Emma’s offensive abilities with Coo’s techniques to overcome challenges throughout their adventure.
Alongside Yui Ishikawa’s casting as Emma, Game Freak revealed the first wave of Japanese voice talent attached to the project. The cast includes Miyuki Satou, Akio Otsuka, Sumire Morohoshi, Yu Kobayashi, Akira Ishida, Satoshi Mikami, Rina Satoh, and Tetsuo Kanao.
Set in a post-apocalyptic version of Japan, Beast of Reincarnation follows Emma, an outcast known as a “Blightborn,” who navigates a world devastated by a mysterious blight. Accompanied by her canine companion Coo, she travels through landscapes where lush forests can suddenly emerge from barren wastelands. As the pair journey together, their relationship deepens and unlocks new abilities that help them survive the dangers of the world around them.
The game’s story explores themes of companionship, isolation, and self-discovery as Emma searches for answers about her past and the nature of the blight that has consumed the land. Game Freak says players will experience both the comfort of having a trusted companion and the loneliness of traversing a harsh, unpredictable world.
Beast of Reincarnation is currently available to wishlist on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S ahead of its August 4 release.
