Bethesda has confirmed that it is actively working to resolve crashing issues affecting Starfield on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. The response comes after widespread player reports highlighted persistent stability problems on Sony’s platforms.
In a comment addressing the situation, the developer stated, “Hey, everyone — we’re aware that some players are experiencing crashes on PS5. The dev team has narrowed this down to a small number of issues and is working on a hotfix that we’re aiming to release this week. In the meantime, a few community-shared workarounds may help while we finish the fix. Thanks, as always, for reporting and sharing details.”
Reports from players indicate that crashes and freezes are occurring frequently across both PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of the game. In some cases, the crashes appear severe enough to cause system instability, with users claiming they had to disconnect power entirely to regain control of their console.
The issue does not appear to be tied to any specific in-game location, suggesting a broader technical problem. Early speculation pointed to the PS5 Pro’s Enhanced PSSR toggle as a potential cause, but similar crashes on the base PS5 have ruled out that theory.
Bethesda has not provided a precise timeline beyond its target of releasing a hotfix within the week, but the acknowledgment suggests a fix may arrive soon as the studio works to stabilize the experience for affected players.
