Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are moving forward with a new adaptation of Bloodborne, this time as an R-rated animated feature. The project will see content creator Seán McLoughlin, widely known as Jacksepticeye, take on a producer role alongside PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation.
McLoughlin’s involvement marks a notable crossover between gaming content creation and film production. Known for his long-standing enthusiasm for Bloodborne, he has frequently highlighted the game’s world and design to an audience that spans over 48 million followers. His addition to the production team suggests a creative influence rooted in familiarity with the source material, though specific details about the film’s direction remain undisclosed.
The animated feature is part of Sony’s broader effort to adapt its gaming properties into film and television. This initiative has already produced projects such as Uncharted, Twisted Metal, and HBO’s The Last of Us, with further adaptations in development, including a Helldivers film directed by Justin Lin and starring Jason Momoa.
Originally released in March 2015 for PlayStation 4, Bloodborne was developed by FromSoftware in collaboration with Japan Studio. The game is set in the decaying city of Yharnam, where a mysterious blood-based illness has driven much of the population into madness. Players assume the role of a Hunter navigating the city’s interconnected districts, engaging in fast-paced combat while uncovering the deeper, cosmic horror underlying the world.
While the film’s narrative and release window have yet to be revealed, the project represents another step in Sony’s continued push to expand its portfolio of game-based adaptations, with Bloodborne standing out as one of its more atmospheric and stylistically distinct properties.
