CD Projekt Says It Will Not Rely On AI To Make Complete Games

by Ali Haider

CD Projekt has confirmed that it is using artificial intelligence as a development tool but does not intend to rely on AI to create complete games. The company says its development teams will remain predominantly human-led despite the growing role of AI technology in the games industry.

The comments were made during CD Projekt’s first half 2026 earnings call in response to a question about whether technologies such as AI are producing efficiency gains across its development teams. The company acknowledged that AI is becoming increasingly relevant to game development, but said it sees the technology primarily as another tool for developers.

“AI is definitely becoming a thing in game development as well; we are still predominantly using people, and this is our plan”

CD Projekt added that AI can assist developers in specific areas and could become more useful in the future. However, the company does not view it as a replacement for its development teams.

“AI, if anything is a is a tool like many others that’s helping in places that can maybe become more helpful in the future”

CD Projekt Will Keep Human Developers At The Centre

The company was particularly direct about its plans for AI-generated games, saying it does not intend to depend on AI to produce complete titles. CD Projekt also questioned whether this would be an appropriate approach for the complex games it develops.

“We’re not planning to rely I don’t know on AI making complete games, and to be honest, especially with very complex games like ours, I don’t even think this is the right or ethical path, you know, to follow”

The comments come as CD Projekt maintains a large development pipeline. The company currently has 1,045 developers across its projects, with The Witcher 4 accounting for its largest team at 519 developers.

Cyberpunk 2 has the second-largest major development team, with 184 developers. CD Projekt said the team has grown over the previous three months to support the project during its current development phase.

Project Hadar And Sirius Remain In Earlier Development

Project Hadar remains in the concept phase, with more than 30 developers currently working on it. CD Projekt expects the team to grow to around 50 developers by the end of 2026, with the developers currently experimenting with different approaches and ideas while prototyping gameplay elements.

“Hader is still in the concept phase. We currently have over 30 people and expect to hire more, up to 50 developers by the end of this year.”

Project Sirius is also still in pre-production. CD Projekt has adjusted the size of the team according to the project’s current requirements, with development focused on testing different solutions and ideas.

“The production is ongoing. The pre-production series is ongoing, and at this stage we are focused on testing different solutions and ideas”

Sirius is also different from CD Projekt’s other projects because it is being developed as a multiplayer game. The company said this means there is significant experimentation and learning taking place during development.

“This project is very different from our other projects because it’s focused on multiplayer. So there’s a lot of learning and testing in this particular one.”

Two Unannounced Games Are In Development

CD Projekt also confirmed during the earnings call that it currently has two unannounced projects in the development phase. These are separate from projects that remain in the earlier research stage.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Remastered does not count among the two unannounced projects. CD Projekt explained that the remaster represents a continuation of its existing work on The Witcher 3, while the Songs of the Past expansion and Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3 were separately capitalised as development projects.

The company’s current pipeline therefore extends beyond its announced releases. The Witcher 4 is targeting 2028, Songs of the Past is planned for 2027, and Cyberpunk 2 remains in development, while Project Sirius, Project Hadar and two unannounced projects are progressing through different development stages.
