Black Myth: Wukong Physical Version Offers Activation Code Instead Of Disc

by Muhammad Ali Bari

The physical version of Game Science’s upcoming action role-playing game, Black Myth: Wukong, will offer an activation code instead of a disc.

The official pre-order FAQ for Black Myth: Wukong states that it is the first time Game Science is releasing a console game globally, and it is currently facing limitations in offline resources required for the import, export, transportation, distribution, and sales of physical discs. As a result, physical copies of Black Myth: Wukong will come with an activation code for the digital version instead of offering a standard disc.

This news will certainly not be taken positively by game preservationists, who prefer to keep their games on physical storage media and have the ability to play them without the need for an internet connection. Though, given the circumstances surrounding this decision from developer Game Science, it’s understandable why a the traditional disc could not be included with the game packaging. We’re hopeful that once the studio has sorted out its logistic hurdles, it will eventually offer a disc-based physical edition of the game for those who want it.

Furthermore, the FAQ states that Black Myth: Wukong employs a classic one-time purchase model with a one-time payment. In the future, the developer may release DLCs and non-pay-to-win in-game purchases. Additionally, the studio encouraged readers to take a screenshot of this statement as guarantee.

Previously, it was revealed via Twitter/X user ignusthewise, who is known for their sources within the game industry, that Black Myth: Wukong will offer a New Game Plus mode at launch and will feature over 80 bosses. They also shared that the game will include multiple endings, though it wasn’t specified just how many.

Black Myth: Wukong is now officially available for pre-order on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is set to be released on August 17, 2024.
