The Blood of Dawnwalker has sold 1 million copies, marking a major commercial milestone for Rebel Wolves and its debut action RPG. The game has managed to attract a substantial audience despite being a new intellectual property without an established franchise behind it.
Developed by Rebel Wolves, a Warsaw-based studio founded in 2022 by former CD Projekt Red developers, The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy RPG set in plague-ravaged 14th-century Europe. Players take control of Coen, a cursed warrior who can use his humanity during the day and vampire abilities at night.
The game was developed using Unreal Engine 5 and features a non-linear structure built around a 30-day time budget. Rather than simply passing time through exploration, player actions advance the clock, forcing decisions about how to use the limited time available while attempting to save Coen’s family.
Rebel Wolves Scores With Its Debut
Rebel Wolves was established by veterans of The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz. The studio has focused on narrative-driven single-player RPGs while maintaining a smaller and more independent development structure.
The Blood of Dawnwalker has also received a positive response from players, with the game holding an 83% positive rating on Steam. Its commercial performance is particularly notable given that original single-player RPGs do not have the same built-in audience as established franchises.
Reaching 1 million copies sold gives Rebel Wolves a strong start for its debut project and provides an early indication that the studio’s approach to a new dark fantasy RPG has resonated with players.
