The PlayStation ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have more online players than those of Black Ops 7 across all platforms, it is claimed.
Known Call of Duty insider and enthusiast charlieINTEL took to Twitter/X to share that, as per their sources, the Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 ports on PlayStation have more players online than Black Ops 7 does combined across all platforms. If true, this would be a strong message being sent to Activision from the community regarding the state of modern entries in the series.
Regarding their source, the insider mentioned that the information comes firsthand from those familiar with the Call of Duty player counts, internally.
Soon after being released for PS4/PS5, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 managed to outpace GTA VI in the Trending Games section on the PlayStation Store across all major regions. While the latter was temporarily dethroned by other games in the past, it was only in specific regions and not across the board like it currently is for Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2. As such, this is was first time GTA VI was decisively dethroned since the release of its second trailer.
For the uninitiated, when a game is trending higher than another game on the PlayStation Store, it indicates that the former is selling at a faster pace. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that it has sold more copies overall. Therefore, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are ahead of GTA VI because PlayStation users are currently buying them faster than they’re buying the latter, which makes sense given that they were just released for the PS4/PS5.
Going by this alone, it wouldn’t entirely be surprising for these games to have a larger combined player count than Black Ops 7’s player base across all platforms.
