The newly released PS4/PS5 ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are currently trending ahead of GTA VI across all major PlayStation Store regions.
Soon after being released for PS4/PS5, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have managed to outpace GTA VI in the Trending Games section on the PlayStation Store across all major regions (via SynthPotato on Twitter/X). While the later was temporarily dethroned by other games in the past, it was only in specific regions and not across the board like it currently is for Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2. As such, this is the first time GTA VI has decisively been dethroned since the release of its second trailer.
For the uninitiated, when a game is trending higher than another game on the PlayStation Store, it indicates that the former is selling at a faster pace. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that it has sold more copies overall. Therefore, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are ahead of GTA VI because PlayStation users are currently buying them faster than they’re buying the latter, which makes sense given that they were just released for the PS4/PS5.
While GTA VI is expected to reclaim its top spot in the PlayStation Store Trending Games section worldwide, it’s quite surprising to see Call of Duty titles originally released in 2010 and 2012 manage to outpace Rockstar Games’ upcoming juggernaut.
Up until now, the only PlayStation console Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were playable on was PS3. The PlayStation Store Trending Games section suggests that there’s high demand for classic Call of Duty games on the platform.
Despite not receiving a new trailer in over a year, being around 5 months from release, and costing between 80 to 100 US Dollars, GTA VI became the best selling game across all PlayStation Store regions after pre-orders went live last month. Read about it here.
