Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Has Reached Over 5 Million Players On PS5 A Week After Release

The PS5 version of Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has reached more than 5 million players just a week after release.

According to the weekly active player stats widget (via Red Kong XIX on the ResetEra forums) that is currently available only to a select number of PS5 users, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has reached 5.25 million players on the platform since its release last week. The game was originally released more than a decade ago in November, 2012.

While not quite as impressive, the PS5 version of the original Call of Duty: Black Ops has achieved nearly 2 million users during the same week. The title was first released a decade and a half ago in November, 2010.

It’s safe to say that both ports have proven to be a huge success on the PS5. Known Call of Duty insider and enthusiast charlieINTEL recently claimed that, as per their sources, the Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 ports on PlayStation have more players online than Black Ops 7 does combined across all platforms. Going by the stats revealed by the weekly active player count widget on PS5, the information is likely to be true.

Soon after being released for PS4/PS5, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 managed to outpace GTA VI in the Trending Games section on the PlayStation Store across all major regions. While the latter was temporarily dethroned by other games in the past, it was only in specific regions and not across the board like in the case of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2. When a game is trending higher than another on the PlayStation Store, this indicates that it is selling at a faster pace, and not necessarily that it has sold more copies overall.

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 were released for PS4 and PS5 on July 9, 2026.
