Captain Tsubasa 2 Reveals Game Modes Before Launch

by Greg Martin

Bandai Namco Entertainment America has released a new gameplay overview for Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, offering a detailed look at the modes and features players can expect before the football action game launches on August 28.

The newly released video highlights several of the game’s core modes, including Story Mode, which introduces new rising stars alongside the series’ familiar cast. It also showcases character customisation options and the in-game shop, where players can obtain equipment inspired by legendary national teams.

Based on the long-running Captain Tsubasa anime and manga series, the sequel once again focuses on fast-paced, arcade-style football, combining exaggerated anime action with strategic gameplay.

The story follows Tsubasa Ozora as he represents Japan’s national team in its quest to qualify for and compete in the World Youth Championship. Throughout the campaign, players will face a range of international opponents as Japan attempts to establish itself among the world’s elite football nations.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters features more than 110 playable characters and 22 national teams. Confirmed countries include Brazil, Argentina, the Netherlands and Mexico, with each squad bringing its own strengths to the pitch.

Matches place a strong emphasis on timing, positioning and special moves, with players using powerful techniques and tactical play to overcome increasingly challenging opponents.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters launches on August 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.
