Nexon to Take Over Overwatch Korea Service in August

Blizzard Entertainment and Nexon have announced that the PC service for Overwatch in South Korea will officially transfer to Nexon on August 12, with player registration and account linking now available ahead of the change.

The new service will be operated by Nexon’s subsidiary, Nexon Korea Corporation, and will launch alongside Overwatch’s Season 4.

Players can now register for the transfer and link their accounts to ensure a smooth transition before the August launch. The companies said the move is intended to provide a service tailored specifically to the Korean market.

According to Nexon, the company will support the game with enhanced live service operations, hyperlocalisation and strategies focused on Korea’s PC gaming cafés, commonly known as internet game rooms, as well as the local community.

Nexon President and CEO Junghun Lee said the company has been working closely with Blizzard to prepare for the transition and aims to improve the overall player experience through its live operations and locally focused support.

Blizzard also welcomed the upcoming change, with Walter Kong, Senior Vice President and Head of Development, Live Games/Mobile, saying the partnership with Nexon will deliver a high-quality experience designed specifically for Korean players as the game enters a new chapter in the region.

Originally released in 2016, Overwatch has grown into one of Blizzard’s flagship franchises, attracting more than 100 million players worldwide. The team-based hero shooter features a diverse roster of playable heroes and fast-paced, objective-based multiplayer gameplay.

The transition to Nexon’s service will take place on August 12, coinciding with the launch of Overwatch Season 4 in South Korea.
