Echoes of Aincrad Reveals One-Life Death Game Mode

by Greg Martin

Bandai Namco Entertainment America has released a new trailer for Echoes of Aincrad, revealing Death Game Mode, a high-risk gameplay option that gives players a single chance to complete the adventure without respawning.

Inspired by the central premise of the Sword Art Online series, Death Game Mode raises the stakes by limiting players to one life for an entire playthrough. If they fall in battle, the run comes to an end, making every encounter and decision significantly more important.

The mode reflects the fictional VRMMORPG featured in the game, where players create their own character before becoming trapped inside a virtual world in which death carries real-world consequences.

Players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Echoes of Aincrad will be able to access Death Game Mode before the game’s standard release.

Unlike previous Sword Art Online games, Echoes of Aincrad allows players to create their own protagonist rather than taking control of an established character from the series. The game features extensive avatar customisation, letting players build their own adventurer before entering the world of Aincrad.

Combat focuses on fast-paced real-time action, with players battling monsters and powerful bosses while teaming up with familiar characters from the Sword Art Online franchise, who can assist during encounters.

Echoes of Aincrad launches on July 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
