CD Projekt Red has completed the “world vision” stage of the development of its new IP, Project Hadar, according to a new report.

During an interview with PAP Biznes (via JuiceHead33 and shinobi602 on Twitter/X), CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski mentioned that the studio has spent several years establishing a cohesive vision for the world of Hadar and defining its key elements. While the project has now progressed beyond this stage, it has yet to enter pre-production.

Nowakowski explained that the development team has begun working on small prototypes and experimenting with gameplay elements for Project Hadar. The game was announced in Announced in October, 2022, as CD Projekt Red’s first entirely original IP rather than an entry in an existing franchise such as The Witcher or Cyberpunk 2020. Details about its setting, gameplay, characters, and potential release window have yet to be revealed.

The Polish developer continues to work on several projects, including The Witcher 4. Nowakowski described it as the studio’s most ambitious production to date, with development targeting Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Furthermore, CD Projekt Red is working on a new story expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled Songs of the Past, which aims to bridge the narrative gape between the third and fourth games. It is planned for released sometime in 2027.

Although Project Hadar is far from entering a full production phase, the establishment of its world vision is an important milestone, indicating that CD Projekt Red has set the creative foundations needed to begin exploring how its original universe will translate into a playable experience.

Last month, CD Projekt confirmed that while it is using AI as a development tool, it doesn’t intend to rely on the technology to create complete games. The company says its development teams will remain predominantly human-led. Read about it here.
