Code Vein 2 Mask of Idris is now available, with Bandai Namco releasing the expansion alongside Free Update Version 2.0 for all players. The DLC is included with the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions and is also available as a separate purchase on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The expansion adds a new post-game storyline set in the Forsaken World, a realm formed from the remnants of worlds that disappeared following historical changes. These erased worlds have accumulated within the Temporal Rift rather than disappearing as expected, causing the Forsaken World to grow and threaten the world that the protagonists are attempting to protect.
Players will encounter Liv Voda again during the expansion. The guardian of time and space has a combative personality and considers the protagonist a rogue interfering with the Temporal Rift. The story will also introduce another version of Lou, who arrived in the Forsaken World after suffering a different tragedy from the Lou known by the protagonist.
Mask of Idris adds new weapons, Formae, and Jails with abilities that are different from those available in the main game. Completing the expansion’s story also unlocks alternate color variations for 14 partner characters, including characters introduced as part of the DLC.
The expansion is designed as post-game content and has specific requirements before players can access it. Players must reach the Luna Fraterna ending in the main story and complete the Valentin’s request sub-mission before beginning the Mask of Idris campaign.
Free Update Version 2.0 expands the post-clear experience with The Age of Harmony, which adds new episodes for each partner. The update also introduces Trials of Remembrance, a sequence of consecutive boss battles that rewards items that can be exchanged for more than 90 new character customization parts.
Another addition allows Jadwiga to become a new summonable partner. Previously available only in a possessed state, Jadwiga now fights using a two-handed sword in one hand while incorporating Formae into a faster combat style.
Version 2.0 also adds a story-focused mode that increases player stats, making progression through exploration and boss encounters easier. Players can additionally apply a Legacy character shader that gives the cast an anime-inspired appearance reminiscent of the original Code Vein.
Code Vein 2 builds its combat around blood drained from enemies, which can be used to unlock powerful abilities. Players can develop different strategies through Blood Codes while combining weapons and Jails to take on the game’s enemies and bosses.
The sequel also features a Partner System that allows players to switch between two forms of combat during gameplay. Character customization returns as well, giving players extensive control over the Revenant Hunter’s appearance, including body type, hairstyle, facial expressions, accessories, makeup, and other features.
