Cyberpunk 2077 Surpasses 40 Million Copies Sold Worldwide

CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has surpassed 40 million copies sold worldwide.

The milestone was revealed on the official Cyberpunk 2077 X account, where the studio celebrated the achievement by posting, “Night City population: 40 million dreamers. Thank you all for helping us reach this amazing milestone!”

The latest figure marks another significant sales milestone for the open-world RPG, which has continued to attract new players years after its original release. The game reached 35 million copies sold before climbing to the new 40 million total.

Released in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 launched to strong commercial success despite widespread criticism over its technical performance, particularly on last-generation consoles. CD Projekt Red spent the following years improving the game through major updates, culminating in the extensive Update 2.0 overhaul and the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023.

The game’s resurgence also coincided with the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, which helped introduce the franchise to a wider audience and contributed to renewed sales momentum.

Since launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has expanded to additional platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2 and macOS, helping the game continue its long-term commercial growth.

Reaching 40 million copies sold cements Cyberpunk 2077 as one of CD Projekt Red’s biggest commercial successes, alongside The Witcher series, and represents a remarkable turnaround following its troubled launch.
