Square Enix has said a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XV is technically possible, although the company has not committed to bringing the game to Nintendo’s new console.
The comments came during a shareholder Q&A, where the company was asked whether the release of the Final Fantasy VII remake on Nintendo Switch 2 meant other entries in the series, including Final Fantasy XV, could also be ported to the platform.
Responding to the question, Square Enix said, “First, while there are certain hardware constraints when it comes to faithfully replicating the exact experience of ‘FINAL FANTASY XV,’ we can say that it is not entirely impossible. As to whether we will actually deploy it on the Nintendo Switch 2, we will pass along your input to the development team as a valuable perspective on marketing and future platform options.”
The response suggests the publisher believes the game could run on the hardware, though technical compromises may be required to match the experience available on other platforms.
The clarification also follows reports circulating last week that claimed Square Enix was working on a Final Fantasy XV Remake. Those reports appear to have stemmed from a misunderstanding of the shareholder question, which referred to the possibility of a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the existing game rather than a remake.
For now, Square Enix has not announced plans to release Final Fantasy XV on Nintendo Switch 2, but the company says player interest will be shared with its development team as it considers future platform options.
