Train Sim World 7 is heading to South Florida for the first time in the series with Florida Tri-Rail: Miami Airport – Boca Raton, one of three new core routes arriving with the game on September 15. The route covers more than 45 miles of railway and combines Tri-Rail passenger services with CSX freight operations.
The route runs from Miami Airport north towards Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, with 13 stations recreated with authentic Tri-Rail furnishings. Passenger announcements will also be available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
Florida Tri-Rail is not limited to commuter services. Freight yards, sidings and delivery points are spread throughout the route, allowing players to switch between passenger operations and CSX freight work. This includes assembling freight trains and making deliveries around the industrial areas of South Florida.
The route’s setting is also a significant departure for Train Sim World. Players will travel through a distinctly South Florida environment featuring palm trees, waterways, tropical vegetation, suburbs and bright coastal scenery, while aircraft can be seen operating around Miami Airport.
Several locomotives and passenger vehicles will be included with the route. The BL36PH will be available in both Tri-Rail’s Palm Tree and Dark Blue liveries, alongside Rotem double-deck passenger cars and a cab car in the same liveries. Players can operate the locomotive in one direction before switching to the cab car for the return journey.
The F40PH-3C will also be included in Tri-Rail’s Dark Blue livery, providing another option for passenger services. On the freight side, players will have access to the CSX SD40-2 and GP38-2 in Yn3b livery, along with the Dura-Max Rock Hopper, which is making its Train Sim World debut.
The freight content will also tie into Train Sim World 7’s new Freight Hauler mode. Scenarios will introduce different operations across the route, while Timetable Mode will recreate scheduled passenger and freight activity. There are 200 timetables in total, with 111 playable across Tri-Rail and freight services.
Existing Train Sim World add-ons can provide additional services and rolling stock. The Tri-Rail GP49H-3 adds another commuter locomotive, while owners of Northeast Corridor: New York – Trenton can access an additional Inspection Train service using an Amtrak ex-Metroliner Cab Car. Freight content from Horseshoe Curve and Clinchfield Railroad can also add compatible freight cars to the route.
The Tri-Rail GP49H-3 is also included with the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions of Train Sim World 7. The locomotive can handle passenger duties as well as additional operations such as ballast trains.
Dovetail Games has also worked with Tri-Rail directly to capture authentic audio for the route. Its audio team travelled to Miami and recorded sounds from the real fleet, including the increasingly rare GP49H-3 locomotives, with access to the equipment provided by Tri-Rail’s engineers.
A preview livestream for Florida Tri-Rail: Miami Airport – Boca Raton is scheduled for September 2 at 18:00 UTC and 19:00 BST. Matt and Jamie will showcase the route, its Tri-Rail and CSX rolling stock, and the new Freight Hauler mode.
