Kojima Productions has announced that the Death Stranding series has surpassed 27 million players worldwide.

The milestone was revealed in a recent press release from the studio, which noted that its first title since the company’s founding on December 16, 2015, has now reached “a cumulative total of 27 million players across the series to date.”

Created by Hideo Kojima, the Death Stranding franchise debuted in 2019 and introduced players to a post-apocalyptic world where Sam Porter Bridges reconnects isolated communities through a vast communications network. The series has become known for its focus on traversal, exploration and asynchronous multiplayer systems that allow players to indirectly assist one another.

The original Death Stranding launched on PlayStation 4 before expanding to PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X/S through later releases. Its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, has continued to build on the franchise following its release on PlayStation 5 and PC.

The latest player milestone reflects the combined reach of the Death Stranding series across all supported platforms since Kojima Productions released its debut title.
