Devil May Cry 5 is now officially the best selling game in the series. It has surpassed the lifetime sales of Devil May Cry 4.
Devil May Cry series hasn’t exploded in sales as Monster Hunter or Resident Evil but it has done decently overall. Capcom has shared the latest sales figure for its platinum sellers which includes games that have sold or shipped more than one million units. One of the biggest gains has been for Devil May Cry 5.
The game launched in March last year and quickly went on to become one of the fastest-selling games in the series. It has now outsold the lifetime sales of the original Devil May Cry 4 that launched for the PS3, PC and Xbox 360. The updated sales figure confirms that Devil May Cry 5 has sold 3.1 million units compared to the 3 million units sold by the original Devil May Cry 4.
If we add the re-release of Devil May Cry 4, which was labeled as the Special Edition, then the total comes to around 4.4 million units for the game. The Special Edition added new playable characters and was released for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It has sold 1.4 million units.
Capcom has achieved great success with some of their recent games including Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Devil May Cry 5. Monster Hunter World is their fastest-selling game of all time while Resident Evil 2 Remake is approaching 6 million sales.
Resident Evil 7 was developed on a brand new engine called RE Engine. This has been successfully used to develop games like Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5. The upcoming Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil: Resistance also use the same game engine.
