Blizzard has officially announced Diablo V, the next mainline entry in the long-running action RPG series, during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony. The game is currently scheduled to launch in Spring 2029 and will take place in a Sanctuary where Diablo has already won and the world’s heroes have been defeated.
Blizzard describes Diablo V as a new chapter for the franchise built around a very different version of Sanctuary. Players will enter a world that has already fallen to Diablo, with the game’s story exploring what people must become when there is little hope left.
The developer plans to provide an early look at Diablo V during a dedicated BlizzCon panel titled Diablo V: Forging the Next Era. The presentation is scheduled for September 12 at 1:45 p.m. PT and will cover the game’s world, classes and creative direction.
Blizzard also announced a new animated Diablo series being developed in partnership with Netflix. The series will be set within the Diablo universe, although the company has not yet revealed details about its story, cast or release date.
Diablo IV is also receiving a major addition in 2027 with the return of the Amazon class. The class will arrive during the first half of the year as part of a class pack and originates from the island of Skovos, which was introduced in Diablo IV through Lord of Hatred.
The Amazon will feature four gameplay archetypes: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger and Commander. Players will be able to use returning bows and javelins, with javelins introducing a new weapon type to Diablo IV.
Blizzard is also preparing Season of Hell’s Legacy for Diablo IV as part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations. The season will feature appearances from iconic characters, enemies and locations, with Deckard Cain’s lost soul guiding players through a story involving the Prime Evils Baal, Mephisto and Diablo.
Season of Hell’s Legacy begins rolling out on September 15 at 9:30 a.m. PT. Blizzard says more than 130 million players have entered Sanctuary across the Diablo franchise.
Finally, Diablo IV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15 through the Age of Hatred Collection. The package includes the base game, Vessel of Hatred expansion and Lord of Hatred expansion, bringing the complete Diablo IV experience to Nintendo’s newer hardware.
