Doom The Dark Ages Slaughter Mode Details Revealed

Doom: The Dark Ages is getting a new Slaughter Mode in November as a free update for owners of the Revelations DLC. The endless survival mode will build on the combat systems introduced in the expansion, sending players through increasingly difficult and fully randomised encounters.

Slaughter Mode is structured around rounds featuring randomly selected enemies, bosses and arenas. There is no fixed endpoint, allowing players to continue fighting for as long as they can survive. A scoring system will track each player’s personal best, although the mode will not feature a global leaderboard because it does not use a backend.

Every 10 rounds will act as a checkpoint where players can cash in the skulls they have earned. Progression will also include cosmetic rewards, while weekly challenges will provide additional objectives for players attempting to improve their scores.

The mode was developed by a dedicated strike team working alongside the game’s other development projects. According to the developers, the team created Slaughter Mode because the Revelations combat loop provided enough depth to support additional content beyond the campaign.

The new mode is intended to give players more opportunities to practise and master the game’s combat tools, including the spear. It provides an alternative to replaying the campaign or relying on Ultra Nightmare and Pandemonium runs for additional challenges.

Slaughter Mode will also avoid requiring players to repeat the game’s normal upgrade progression. Previously unlocked upgrades will remain available, with progression instead focused on surviving further rounds and reaching reward milestones.

The developers described the mode as a celebration of the Revelations combat system. While its progression and meta structure include some arcade-inspired elements, the underlying combat mechanics remain unchanged.

The team also said player feedback from Doom Eternal’s Horde Mode influenced the development of Slaughter Mode. More information about the mode and its rewards is expected to be shared during upcoming weekly streams.
