EA has reportedly removed all cosmetics related to BioWare’s Mass Effect series from its first-person shooter, Battlefield 6.
Twitter/X user BFBulletin has pointed out that EA and DICE have quietly removed all Mass Effect cosmetics from Battlefield 6 after the closure of developer BioWare. This includes player card backgrounds, weapon skins, weapon charms, weapon stickers, sprays, and soldier patches. Examples can be seen in the image below. They mentioned that these cosmetics were listed as “unavailable,” and may have been planned for release next month in November, close to or on N7 Day.
After the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the next entry in the Mass Effect series, an alleged EA employee took to Reddit to engage with the community. They mentioned there was a trailer ready for Mass Effect 5 that they saw a few months ago, and that they were puzzled by the official statement regarding development on the project being “early.” Later, a burner account shared the aforementioned trailer in a related Reddit thread.
BioWare announced its closure after more than 30 years in the video game industry, as “early development” on the next Mass Effect game comes to an end. The studio shared the announcement in a statement reflecting on its history and thanking players for supporting its games over the decades. “For more than 30 years, BioWare has been more than a studio. It has been a home for storytellers, developers, and the players who brought our worlds to life.”
The statement went on to name several of the studio’s best-known franchises, including Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. BioWare also addressed the end of its operations directly, saying, “Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending.”
