The Elder Scrolls VI is still more than two years away from release, according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier. His comments come shortly after Bethesda revealed the game’s official subtitle, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, during its 40th anniversary celebration.
Writing on Bluesky, Schreier reminded fans that Bethesda originally announced The Elder Scrolls VI alongside Starfield in 2018, largely to reassure players following the reveal of Fallout 76.
According to Schreier, the announcement was intended to show that Bethesda hadn’t abandoned its traditional single-player RPGs despite moving into multiplayer gaming with Fallout 76. He added that fans hoping to play the next Elder Scrolls game soon would have to wait, as it remains more than two years away.
Bethesda recently brought the game back into the spotlight by revealing its full title during a retrospective celebrating the company’s 40-year history. The announcement confirmed the subtitle Sentinel, which had previously appeared in rumors surrounding the project.
The Elder Scrolls VI release date remains unannounced, and Schreier’s comments suggest that the game won’t arrive before late 2028 at the earliest, assuming the current development schedule holds.
Bethesda first revealed the project with a short teaser trailer at E3 2018. Development did not move into full production until after the studio completed Starfield, which had been its main focus for several years.
