Fallout 4 Update Adds Mod Support Improvements and Bug Fixes

Fallout 4’s August 18 update brings several improvements to mod support, including an increased BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1,024. The update also expands Creation Kit functionality across PlayStation and Xbox.

Several crash fixes are included as well, addressing issues on Steam Deck and Microsoft Store, along with a streaming audio-related crash. Additional fixes improve Creations browsing, terrain editing, and LipGen functionality.

Added and Updated Features

Game

  • Increased the BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1,024 to better support larger mod collections.
  • Added fixes for localised strings covering UI and platform terminology.

Creation Kit

  • Added archive support on PlayStation.
    • Added support for .nif, .dds, .bink, .cdx, .csg, .wav, and .fuz files with embedded .wav files for PlayStation Creations.
  • Added the ability to add Bink files to Creation uploads through an Extra Files browser.
  • Added localisation export support.
  • Increased the maximum Creation upload size on Xbox to 2 GB.
  • Updated Search and Replace to align with Starfield.
    • Added buttons for Select Form in Object Window and Open Form Editor.

Crash Fixes

Game

  • Fixed a crash that occurred when opening the Virtual Keyboard on Steam Deck.
  • Fixed a top crash caused by a streaming audio error.
  • Fixed a Microsoft Store crash that could occur when entering the Creations menus after resuming internet connectivity.

Bug Fixes

Game

  • Fixed Search navigation so exiting Search while viewing a specific Creation now properly returns to that Creation’s Details page.
  • Improved the consistency of ordered results in Creations category lists.
  • Updated Bethesda.Net service error messages to include error codes that can be provided to Customer Service for investigation.

Creation Kit

  • Fixed an issue where archiving a plugin using pre-existing assets in a new form could duplicate those assets.
  • Fixed an issue where Material or Heightmap terrain edits did not cause grass to generate properly.
  • Fixed LipGen launched from the command line or a launch argument so it now properly generates .lip files.

Miscellaneous

  • Updated the game credits.

The Fallout 4 August 18 update was released on August 18, 2026. It is available across the game’s supported platforms, and Fallout 4 was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.
