Bethesda has officially announced that dedicated Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions of Fallout 76 are on the way, with a full release planned for later this summer.

The developer shared the news alongside the game’s latest update details, confirming that public testing for the new console versions will begin during June. Players who own Fallout 76 will be able to download the test builds directly from the Xbox and PlayStation digital stores.

“We’re excited to announce that during the month of June we will be kicking off public testing of the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5/Pro versions of the game,” Bethesda said. “Once testing is completed, we plan on releasing the update later this summer!”

The upcoming versions will introduce a range of technical enhancements designed to take advantage of modern hardware. Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 76 will target 60 FPS across Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro.

Players can also expect improved draw distances and enhanced shadow quality. Resolution support will vary by platform, with native 4K output available on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 Pro when connected to compatible displays. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 Pro will support resolutions up to 1440p, while previous-generation consoles will continue running at 1080p.

Variable Refresh Rate support will also be included on compatible displays for Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 5 Pro, helping to deliver smoother gameplay during performance fluctuations.

Bethesda has not yet announced a specific release date for the upgrade, but the company plans to gather player feedback throughout the June testing period before rolling out the update to all users later this summer.

Originally released in 2018, Fallout 76 serves as an online prequel to the broader Fallout series and takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of West Virginia. Since launch, Bethesda has continued to support the title through major content updates, seasonal events, and gameplay improvements. The upcoming current-generation console versions represent one of the game’s most significant technical upgrades to date.
