Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has doubled down on AI with concept art for Lost Odyssey after being criticized for praising an AI-generated Final Fantasy VI remake teaser.
Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, took to Twitter/X to respond to criticism against him over his praise of an AI-generated Final Fantasy VI remake teaser, sharing an AI creation of his own using concept art from Lost Odyssey. “I just intuitively sensed the potential,” he said.
For those unaware, the game creator was recently seen saying positive things about a fan’s AI-generated Final Fantasy VI remake teaser. “What is this!? Pretty awesome, huh,” he stated. Final Fantasy game designer, director and producer Akitoshi Kawazu reacted by disagreeing with Sakaguchi. “No, Sakaguchi-san, please stop after the first line,” he said. Though, he does believe an actual 3D remake of the game would work. “I do think 6 is definitely suited for a 3D remake.”
Others also came forth with their criticism of Sakaguchi‘s praise of a Final Fantasy VI remake teaser created using generative AI. It led to a thorough response from the Final Fantasy creator, in which he mentioned that he merely sensed potential in what he saw, and that it wouldn’t work as-is. However, the vibe he got is that the technology could lead to intriguing possibilities. He then talked about going through 40 years of work and private life powered purely by “exciting things.” His post indicated that he has been exploring the technology, as he shared an animation he created based on concept art from Lost Odyssey using generative AI tools.
