Final Fantasy Resonance Announced for Consoles and PC

by Greg Martin

Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy Resonance, a new HD-2D role-playing game that brings together elements from across the long-running Final Fantasy franchise while reimagining the story of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for modern platforms.

Described as the first HD-2D title in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy Resonance is set to launch on October 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.

The game revisits the opening story arc of the mobile RPG Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but Square Enix says it has been extensively rebuilt rather than simply ported to new platforms. The project aims to deliver a full console-quality RPG experience while preserving the core narrative centered on crystals and the fate of the world.

Final Fantasy Resonance combines classic turn-based combat with updated mechanics designed for modern audiences. The game also features several staples of the franchise, including chocobos, espers, and airships. In addition, players will encounter iconic characters drawn from different entries in the series, including Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light.

Visually, the title adopts an HD-2D presentation that blends pixel art with modern graphical effects. The approach is intended to evoke the look and feel of classic Final Fantasy adventures while taking advantage of contemporary hardware capabilities.

Square Enix confirmed that the standard edition of Final Fantasy Resonance will be priced at $49.99. Players looking for additional content can purchase a Digital Deluxe Edition for $59.99, which includes the base game along with a selection of in-game items.

A Collector’s Edition will also be available for $209.99. This package includes the game, all Digital Deluxe Edition bonuses, and several physical collectibles. Among the included items are an artbook, a soundtrack, and an exclusive promotional card for the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game.

The publisher has not yet shared additional gameplay details beyond the announcement trailer but stated that more information about Final Fantasy Resonance will be revealed at a later date.
