The Final Fantasy Resonance demo is now available for free across all platforms ahead of the game’s full release on October 22, 2026. Square Enix announced the demo during the latest Sony State of Play, confirming that players can carry their progress into the full game.
The demo covers the opening section of the RPG through the end of its first chapter, providing approximately 3 to 5 hours of gameplay. Players will begin their journey through the Kingdom of Grandshelt and can continue from their existing save when the full game launches.
Square Enix also revealed that Sephiroth will appear in Final Fantasy Resonance. Players will be able to find and challenge the iconic Final Fantasy character, with a special reward available for those who manage to defeat him.
Final Fantasy Resonance is the first HD-2D title in the Final Fantasy series. It combines the visual style of modern HD-2D games with elements from the franchise’s earlier entries, including a strategic turn-based combat system.
The game features familiar Final Fantasy elements such as chocobos, espers and airships, alongside appearances from characters including Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light. The adventure is based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, but Square Enix has substantially rebuilt and refined the experience as a console-quality RPG rather than simply porting the original.
Final Fantasy Resonance follows a story centred around Crystals and presents its world through retro-inspired HD-2D visuals designed to combine pixel art with modern presentation.
The free demo is available now on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC via Steam and Xbox on PC.
Final Fantasy Resonance will launch on October 22, 2026, for all of the same platforms. Pre-orders are currently available.
