Final Fantasy VII Revelation has received a new gameplay trailer during gamescom Opening Night Live, showcasing the legendary Weapons returning in reimagined form alongside new gameplay features. Square Enix also revealed Typhon, open-world traversal options and a new outfit-based ability system ahead of the game’s Spring 2027 release.
The third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Series will launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. The game is now available to wishlist across all platforms.
The latest trailer focuses heavily on the Weapons, enormous guardians that emerge during a crisis and attack both friend and foe. Cloud and his companions will face these colossal creatures in a variety of environments, including deserts, the skies and underwater locations.
The Weapons originally appeared late in Final Fantasy VII, and Revelation will reimagine them as major encounters. Some of these battles will also appear as particularly challenging endgame fights designed as an homage to their original forms.
The trailer also introduces the Summon Typhon and provides a look at the game’s open-world traversal. Players will be able to move around the planet using parachutes, grappling hooks and Chocobo mounts, while the Highwind airship allows the entire planet to be explored freely.
Players can jump from the Highwind and land anywhere on the planet using the parachute system, creating a seamless transition between aerial travel and ground exploration. With Meteor approaching and the Weapons causing destruction across the world, players will have the freedom to decide where to travel, which characters and locations to help, and the order in which they tackle different situations.
Cloud and Tifa are also shown using Warrior and Black Mage FITS. The new FITS system provides specialised outfits that grant unique abilities and increase character power, with roles inspired by classic Final Fantasy jobs.
The story sees Cloud and his allies racing to stop Sephiroth as he approaches godhood and Meteor threatens to destroy the planet. Following the loss of a beloved ally, the group takes to the skies aboard the Highwind as the final conflict begins.
The battle system combines real-time action with Tactical Mode, allowing players to switch between the 2 approaches during combat. The system has also been expanded with additional playable characters and new abilities.
Players will also be able to influence parts of the story through their decisions. The party can divide its efforts across the planet, with choices affecting aspects of the characters’ individual stories as the group works towards its final confrontation with Sephiroth.
Players who have save data from the previous 2 games will receive additional bonuses in Revelation. Save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade unlocks the Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia, while save data from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth unlocks the Phoenix Summon Materia.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The previous 2 games, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, are currently available across the same platforms for players looking to catch up before the final entry arrives.
