Weekly physical sales of Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games’ new racing game, Forza Horizon 6, have surpassed those of Nintendo’s Yoshi And The Mysterious Book in the UK.
Christopher Dring, Editor-In-Chief and Co-Founder of The Game Business, took to Twitter/X to share that, in a very rare sight, Forza Horizon 6, the latest Xbox first-party title, has outsold Yoshi And The Mysterious Book, a new Nintendo first-party game, on the weekly physical game sales charts in the UK last week. Playground Games’ latest racing title debuted at the #2 spot, behind LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (#1) and ahead of Yoshi And The Mysterious Book (#3).
Dring further clarified that while Forza Horizon 6 is also available on PC, the latter did not get a physical release. Therefore, all physical sales are for the Xbox Series X|S version. He explained that Xbox first-party games don’t typically sell much at physical retail. According to him, the last one to even break the Top 5 was Starfield.
According to Dring, the majority of Xbox game sales are digital, while a majority of Nintendo game sales are via physical stores. These factors are why it’s especially surprising to see Forza Horizon 6 take the lead over Yoshi And The Mysterious Book in the UK weekly physical game sales charts. That said, Dring mentioned that the two games had a weekly sales differential of just 300 copies. He also revealed that this is the first debut at the #2 spot in the UK physical game charts for an Xbox first-party game since Starfield, which also had a physical release on PC.
Recently, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma revealed that Forza Horizon 6 has already become the most played early access release in the history of the franchise. “Amazing to see so many players exploring Forza Horizon 6 this weekend, making this the most played Early Access in series history,” she said.
Forza Horizon 6 available for Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. A PlayStation 5 version is set for release later this year.
