Gears 5 users are reporting about a major game-breaking bug that can mess with the save data for the game. This is called the checkpoint bug which can happen randomly.

Gears 5 is out now through early access if you have the Ultimate Edition of the game or membership of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Bundle. In some instances, users have reported a Gears 5 checkpoint bug that doesn’t appear to have any pre-defined traits to trigger, but it can end up messing the progress of the game.

Gears 5 Checkpoint Bug Explained and Can It Be Avoided?

This bug has been reported in the first two acts and could manifest in the later one as well. It basically leads to the player facing a saving notification that can display often when moving between checkpoint. As spotted on the official forums for the game, this can lead to the game getting stuck in a loop that basically makes it say “saving content” and the progress is halted.

This issue can lead to progress getting lost because there is no way to avoid it for now. Since the game is technically in early access, it can be hoped that The Coalition can work out the source of the problem and then fix it with an update in the future. In some cases, as the one reported here, it can also lead to the player getting thrown back to the main menu screen.
