Grand Theft Auto VI has received a Mature 17+ rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board, confirming the type of mature content players can expect from Rockstar Games’ upcoming open-world action game.
The ESRB rating, as spotted on the official website, lists several content descriptors for GTA 6, including Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol, and In-Game Purchases.
The rating places Grand Theft Auto VI within the ESRB’s Mature 17+ category in North America. The classification is consistent with the franchise’s established approach to mature themes and content.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in the fictional state of Leonida and returns players to Vice City. The game follows protagonists Lucia and Jason as they become involved in the criminal underworld, with Rockstar expanding its open-world setting and established sandbox gameplay.
The game has also received an adult classification in other regions, including a PEGI 18 rating. However, the ESRB’s listing provides the specific content descriptors assigned to the North American release.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to release on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series S|X. Rockstar Games is developing the game, which will be published by Take-Two Interactive.
