GTA VI Physical Edition Owners Can Upgrade to Ultimate Edition Anytime, Rockstar Confirms

Rockstar Games has confirmed that players purchasing a physical copy of Grand Theft Auto VI will be able to upgrade to the Ultimate Edition at any time after redeeming their digital download code. The company also clarified that there will be no physical Ultimate Edition when the game launches on November 19, 2026.

Unlike traditional physical releases, GTA VI will ship with a digital download code rather than a game disc. Players who purchase the physical Standard Edition can redeem their code and subsequently purchase the GTA VI Ultimate Edition upgrade through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.

The same upgrade option will be available to players who purchase the digital Standard Edition, with Rockstar confirming that there is no time limit on upgrading.

The Ultimate Edition includes the base game alongside additional content, including the ’95 Grotti Cheetah, Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers, and Classic Car Collection. According to Rockstar, these bonuses are distributed throughout the story featuring protagonists Jason and Lucia, with additional items becoming available as players progress through individual chapters.

Physical copies of GTA VI are expected to arrive at retailers beginning November 12. Rockstar confirmed that players can redeem their download codes as soon as they receive them, although the game itself will not be playable until its official release.

Digital pre-loading begins November 10 on both supported platforms. PlayStation 5 owners can start downloading at midnight local time, while Xbox Series X|S pre-loading opens globally at 12 a.m. GMT.

Rockstar has also detailed the pre-order bonuses available with both editions. Players who digitally pre-order or purchase GTA VI before November 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes the ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, additional outfits and hairstyles, an exclusive weapon pattern, and one month of GTA+ membership.

Physical pre-orders also include the Vintage Vice City Pack, although Rockstar’s listing does not mention the GTA+ membership benefit for those purchases.

For players purchasing physical copies from another region, Rockstar clarified that code redemption depends on the region associated with their platform account. PlayStation download codes are region-specific, while Xbox codes are not region-locked.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game takes place in Leonida, a fictional state featuring a modern interpretation of Vice City, and follows Jason and Lucia through a story centered on crime and survival.
