Halo Campaign Evolved August 17 Patch Notes Released

Halo Campaign Evolved has received its August 17 update, bringing new video settings, account unlinking help, additional customisation rewards, and a range of gameplay improvements. The patch also improves stability across multiple platforms, adjusts enemy AI behaviour, and addresses several issues that could block campaign progression.

The update introduces individual toggles for Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain, while PC players can now completely disable upscaling and anti-aliasing. Several weapons, achievements, animations, audio issues, and account-linking problems have also been addressed. Mid-mission saved progress will be reset when the update is installed, although unlocked Missions and Rally Points will remain available.

New Video Settings

Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain

  • Players can now turn Chromatic Aberration on or off individually.
  • Players can now turn Film Grain on or off individually.
  • Both settings are available under Video Motion & Effects in the Video settings menu.

PC Upscaling Options

  • A new None option has been added under Upscaling Technique.
  • Selecting None disables upscaling and anti-aliasing completely.
  • The option can be found under Settings, Video, Advanced, and Upscaling Technique.

Account Unlinking Help

  • A new Unlinking Help option has been added to the in-game Account settings.
  • Selecting Unlinking Help opens a browser and begins the account unlink request process.
  • Players can view their currently linked accounts before starting the request.
  • Players can access the option through Settings, Account, and Unlinking Help.

New Customisation

  • Players who sign in after installing the August 17 update will automatically receive the Recompilation Armor Skin.
  • Players will also receive the Sandstone Ancient Armor Skin.
  • Players will also receive the Damascus Prototype Armor Skin.
  • Players who do not receive the Recompilation Armor Skin can redeem it through HaloWaypoint.com/Redeem using the provided code.

Global Fixes and Improvements

  • Jackals can now be staggered more reliably when their hands and feet are targeted.
  • Several fixes have been implemented for Sgt. Johnson in Boarding Action to address issues that could block mission progression.
  • The Assault Rifle’s rate of fire and spread have been corrected on Xbox and PC to match its intended performance.
  • Marines and Flood Marines now fire their Assault Rifles when the Magnified Skull is enabled.
  • Marines equipped with a Battle Rifle now fire their weapon as intended.
  • Active Camo behaviour has been improved to reduce instances of uncloaking when falling from ledges or walking over small bumps.
  • Fixed inconsistent weapon firing for console players using mouse and keyboard.
  • Reloading the Magnum immediately after firing now correctly starts the reload process.
  • Players can now interrupt the reload animation of the Fuel Rod Cannon, Rocket Launcher, or Needle Rifle by throwing grenades.
  • Achievement progress is no longer incorrectly awarded when using restricted Skulls or difficulty modifiers.
  • Achievements earned while offline will now be awarded after reconnecting to the Xbox network.
  • Reduced instances of muddy, crackling, and popping audio during the Keyes mission.
  • Campaign Remix will no longer crash when Flood replace a group of enemies intended to enter vehicles.
  • The account linking process has been improved so players no longer need to restart the game after failing to create a Microsoft account.

PC Improvements

  • Numerous PC stability and performance improvements have been made.
  • Mouse and keyboard custom key bindings no longer reset after restarting the game.
  • Maximum Frame Rate options have been adjusted when using VSync on high-refresh-rate displays.
  • Stability has been improved when using XeSS Frame Generation alongside an in-game maximum frame rate limit.
  • Reduced stability issues when loading into a co-op session.
  • All supported devices now have access to every graphics quality option from Very Low through Ultra.
  • Supported AMD graphics cards now properly utilise Advanced Shader Delivery.
  • Shader loading times and in-game hitching have been reduced on supported AMD graphics cards.
  • Cinematic frame rates have been improved when using Frame Generation.
  • Frame Generation will automatically turn off during cinematics and reactivate when gameplay resumes.

PlayStation 5 Improvements

  • Enemies and objects are less likely to skip frames or stutter in high-activity areas.
  • Frame rates have been improved for smoother gameplay.

Saved Progress Warning

  • Installing the August 17 update will reset mid-mission saved progress.
  • Unlocked Missions will remain available.
  • Unlocked Rally Points will remain available.
