Illumination Is Looking To Work Towards Avengers Inspired Super Smash Bros Movie With Multiple Spinoffs
Animation studio Illumination is reportedly looking to work towards an Avengers inspired Super Smash Bros movie with multiple Nintendo spinoffs.
According to movie insider Daniel Richtman, Illumination has prepared a pitch to present to Nintendo for a shared cinematic universe with multiple spinoffs that will culminate in an Avengers inspired Super Smash Bros movie. Given the recent success of The Super Mario Bros movie, we’re likely to see more collaborations between the animation studio and Nintendo in the future. However, whether Nintendo agrees to a long-term pitch for a series of spinoff movies that culminates in a shared cinematic universe remains to be seen.
It was previously assumed that computer animation studio Illumination would be working on an animated movie instead. However, the company CEO Chris Meledandri shut down the rumor during an interview, stating that no Zelda movies were in the works at the time. If the animation studio will indeed work on a shared cinematic universe with Nintendo, a movie based on The Legend of Zelda would undoubtedly happen prior to a Super Smash Bros film.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover fighting game released in 2018 for the Nintendo Switch. Developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd., it is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, succeeding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (2014). The gameplay follows traditional series conventions, where players control various characters to weaken and knock opponents out of an arena. The game offers multiple modes, including a single-player campaign and multiplayer versus modes, featuring 89 playable fighters from Nintendo and third-party franchises.
Up to eight players engage in platform-style battles, aiming to knock each other out of the arena. Players have a percentage meter that increases with damage, affecting how far characters get knocked back and launched upon getting attacked. Standard battles include Timed, Stock, and Stamina conditions, with customizable rules and preset options for future matches.
