Players who access Mafia: Definitive Edition through PlayStation Plus are not eligible for the game’s free current-generation upgrade, 2K has confirmed.
The clarification came from 2K community manager Bret M in the company’s official Discord. Responding to questions about upgrade eligibility, Bret M confirmed that players who “own the game(s) through PS+ specifically are not eligible for the free upgrades.”
Mafia: Definitive Edition received its native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions on August 14, 2026. The upgrade introduces support for 60 FPS along with other technical improvements for modern consoles.
Players who purchased the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions are eligible for the free digital upgrade. However, physical Xbox One owners cannot claim the upgrade, while save data does not transfer between console generations.
Alongside the current-generation upgrade, 2K released Mafia: The Omertà Collection on August 14 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The collection includes Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Edition, Mafia III: Definitive Edition, and Mafia: The Old Country Definitive Edition. The latter also includes the Man of Honor expansion and its Deluxe Edition content.
Players who already own individual games included in the collection can also receive discounts, with the bundle bringing together the four mainline Mafia games in one package.
