Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage Join Marvel Tōkon

by Greg Martin

Arc System Works has unveiled the fourth team set to join the roster of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, introducing Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage as playable fighters. The trio forms the villainous Knights of Doom faction, led by the previously announced Doctor Doom, bringing the roster one step closer to completion.

The newly revealed team was showcased during PlayStation’s latest State of Play presentation, alongside a fresh trailer highlighting the characters, a new stage variant, and additional story details. According to Arc System Works, the Knights of Doom will play a significant role in the game’s Episode Mode, where players will discover how these iconic villains came together under Doctor Doom’s leadership and what motivates them to participate in the tournament.

Magneto joins the roster as a powerful ranged fighter who manipulates the battlefield through his control of magnetism. During combat, he can hurl environmental objects at opponents, leaving debris scattered across the stage. These remnants can then be incorporated into his abilities, allowing him to strengthen attacks and create additional offensive opportunities.

Green Goblin takes a very different approach to combat, relying on speed, mobility, and unpredictability. Flying across the arena on his signature glider, Norman Osborn can bombard opponents with projectiles such as Pumpkin Bombs and Razor Bats before launching aggressive aerial attacks. Arc System Works describes him as a disruptive fighter capable of throwing off opponents with unconventional tactics.

Carnage rounds out the villainous lineup with a brutally aggressive playstyle centered around close-range pressure and symbiote-based attacks. He can transform his limbs into bladed weapons and use tendrils to strike enemies from a distance. Successful tendril attacks infect opponents with a temporary symbiote status effect that empowers Carnage’s abilities, allowing him to inflict additional damage and even drain health through blocking defenses.

The presentation also revealed the game’s primary antagonist, the Champion of the Universe. One of Marvel’s Elder of the Universe characters, the Champion has spent billions of years searching for worthy opponents across the cosmos. In Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, he arrives on Earth alongside a figure known as the Promoter to host a deadly competition called The Challenge of the Champion. Teams of four heroes and villains must compete for the right to face him, with entire worlds at stake for those who fail to impress.

Alongside the character reveals, Arc System Works introduced a nighttime version of Marvel’s New York stage. Serving as the home arena for the Knights of Doom, the alternate setting transforms the previously shown city environment with a darker atmosphere and hidden Easter eggs for players to discover.

The developer also unveiled the game’s final key artwork, created by lead character artist Yūki Katō and Arc System Works’ internal art team. The illustration highlights the game’s 4v4 combat structure while placing each team’s leader at the forefront of the composition.

With only one team remaining to be announced, Arc System Works says the final roster reveal is approaching. Players will also have an opportunity to try the latest build of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls at Evo 2026 in Las Vegas beginning June 26, where Magneto and the Marvel’s New York Night stage will be playable for the first time.
