Martha Is Dead Censorship On PlayStation Consoles Explained
Martha Is Dead will be censored on PlayStation consoles while it will remain uncensored on PC and Xbox, so what is this censorship?
While the game has yet to release, there was an official statement posted by the publisher, Wired Productions, that suggested that the game will be censored on PlayStation consoles at the request of Sony.
Why Is There Censorship In Martha Is Dead
“Martha Is Dead is a narrative adventure recommended for adult audiences only, with play consisting of potentially discomforting scenes and themes that may distress some players, ” reads the statement.
“Both Wired Productions and LKA have always been open and honest about Martha Is Dead content, with the sensitive depictions in play consistently communicated to the media since the game was announced in 2019. This content is also flagged clearly and repeatedly within the game itself before play begins.”
The statement continues: “It is with regret that we have had to modify the experience on the PS5 and PS4 versions, with some elements no longer playable. After over four years of passion and hard work, Developer LKA now requires extra time to make these unplanned changes. Martha Is Dead, as a result, will still launch digitally on both PS5 and PS4 on Thursday, February 24th, 2022, but the physical retail release will be delayed to a yet to be disclosed date; although we anticipate this to only be a small number of weeks”
So while the digital release is still planned for February 24, 2022, the physical version has been delayed due to the censorship required for Martha is Dead.
The publisher didn’t mention what content is being censored here, which led some people to go search for it. Turns out that there is a gruesome scene in the game where the protagonist has to skin the face of their little sister and it plays out in the form of a quick time event.
If you want to see this scene in action, check out this tweet. Be warned though, it can be quite disturbing. Regardless, it appears that this scene might not make the cut for the PlayStation console’s version of Martha is Dead.
The game is set to launch on February 24, 2022, and will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.
