New Marvel comic variant covers tied to Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls may be teasing several unannounced characters planned for the game’s roster.
Marvel recently revealed multiple upcoming “Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls” variant covers attached to different comic issues, including Marc Spector: Moon Knight #7, Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8, Thor #801, and Wade Wilson: Deadpool #8.
The covers have sparked speculation among fans that Moon Knight, Thor, and Deadpool could be among the remaining unrevealed fighters planned for the game’s launch roster.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is an upcoming 4v4 tag-team fighting game co-developed by Arc System Works and Sony Interactive Entertainment. The title is scheduled to launch on August 6, 2026, and combines anime-inspired visuals with simplified controls built around team-based combat.
The game’s launch roster is expected to feature 20 playable characters divided into five themed four-person squads. So far, 14 fighters have officially been confirmed.
The currently revealed “Amazing Guardians” team includes Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Peni Parker, while the “Fighting Avengers” lineup consists of Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Shuri’s Black Panther.
The “Unbreakable X-Men” squad features Wolverine, Storm, Magik, and Danger. Outside the themed teams, Doctor Doom and Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider have also been announced as standalone characters.
That leaves six remaining launch roster slots still undisclosed ahead of release.
Because the game is structured entirely around four-character team compositions, many fans believe Doctor Doom and Ghost Rider will eventually serve as anchors for the final two unrevealed squads. The appearance of Moon Knight, Thor, and Deadpool on the new variant covers has now fueled speculation that they may be connected to those missing teams.
Neither Marvel nor Arc System Works has officially confirmed any additional playable characters at this time.
