Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Targeting September 2023 Release, Suicide Squad Delayed For Polishing

Insomniac Games is targeting a September, 2023 release window for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, while Suicide Squad got delayed to 2024 in order to receive further polish.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Insomniac Games is targeting a September, 2023 release window for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and this may have been among the factors that led to Suicide Squad getting pushed to the year 2024. For those expecting major changes to the latter after the lukewarm reception to February’s gameplay showcase, he cautioned that a 9 month delay is not enough time to completely change the nature of a game.

Schreier stated that the development team at Rocksteady was told the Suicide Squad delay was for polish and not due to the lukewarm reception to February’s gameplay showcase. He added that lots of other factors can also affect release timing, such as the console makers.

Furthermore, Schreier clarified that the term “polish” can mean lots of things, from performance optimization to balance tweaks to bug fixes to server stability. According to him, delaying a game by 9 months in order to add polish is pretty normal these days. On the other hand, the 9 year gap between the release of Suicide Squad and Rocksteady’s previou game, Batman: Arkham Knight, is less normal, he said.

Meanwhile, Windows Central’s Jez Corden has heard that part of the delay to Suicide Squad is to remove/rework the game’s “always online” component.

Previously, the release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had also been hinted by the voice actor who plays the role of Venom. In his response to a tweet, Venom voice actor Tony Todd hinted at the release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation 5. According to him, the game will hit store shelves during the month of September, 2023.

Todd further stated that Sony Interactive Entertainment will be conducting a massive publicity campaign for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the month of August, 2023. Based on what he has been told, commercials for the game will begin airing during that month. Todd urged fans to have patience and look forward to their favorite game hitting store shelves soon.
