Insomniac Games has shared an extensive new look at Marvel’s Wolverine, revealing fresh gameplay footage, story details, key characters, and pre-order information ahead of the game’s launch on PlayStation 5 this September. The studio also confirmed that pre-orders are now live.
Set in an original Marvel universe, the action-adventure game follows James “Logan” Howlett as he investigates the disappearance of a group of mutants who have been captured by the Reavers, a cybernetically enhanced mercenary organization. The group is working for Bolivar Trask, a wealthy industrialist driven by anti-mutant ideology. Logan’s mission soon reunites him with Jean Grey, who emerges as one of the central figures in the story and a key ally in the fight against Trask’s forces.
According to Insomniac, Marvel’s Wolverine takes place in a world where mutants largely live in hiding while society remains unaware of their existence. The game also introduces Team X, a mutant task force that Logan abandoned three years before the events of the story. Faced with growing threats against mutantkind, Wolverine is drawn back into the conflict as the group struggles for survival.
The newly revealed gameplay showcases a combat system centered around Wolverine’s signature claws and aggressive fighting style. Players can stalk enemies, perform stealth takedowns, and engage in brutal close-quarters combat. Logan gains access to special abilities known as Techniques, including attacks such as Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, while Jean Grey uses her telekinetic powers to assist in combat encounters. Together, the pair can trigger devastating Critical Strike finishers during battle.
A new Rage system also plays a major role in combat. Successful attacks, kills, and defensive actions build Wolverine’s Rage meter, allowing him to unleash stronger attacks or activate his Healing Factor. If pushed to its highest level, players can trigger Rage Tier 3, a powerful combat state inspired by Marvel’s Black, White & Blood comic series. The gameplay presentation also featured high-speed motorcycle sequences where Wolverine battles enemies across moving vehicles and highways.
Insomniac confirmed that accessibility remains a major focus for the project. The game will launch with a broad suite of accessibility options designed to support players with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor disabilities.
Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled to launch on September 15, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5. The standard edition is priced at $69.99 and includes several pre-order bonuses, including an early unlock for Wolverine’s Classic Brown Suit, Reflective Claws, an additional Technique Point, and four PlayStation avatars featuring Logan, Jean Grey, Mystique, and Sabretooth.
