Konami could be preparing a third Metal Gear Solid Master Collection featuring Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and an updated version of Metal Gear Solid V, according to information shared by VGC journalist Jordan Middler. The rumour emerged during the latest episode of the Nextlander Podcast, although Middler stressed that the information he received has not been confirmed and could ultimately be inaccurate.
During the discussion, Middler identified Metal Gear Rising Revengeance as one of the major Metal Gear titles he would still like to see brought to modern platforms. He then revealed that he had heard Konami could be considering the game for a potential third collection alongside a cleaned-up version of Metal Gear Solid V.
“The idea would be to do a third one with Revengeance and like a cleaned up version of V,” Middler said.
According to Middler, Metal Gear Solid V would be a logical inclusion because the game has not received a substantial modern console release comparable to what some other entries have received. He explained that while the PC version remains in good shape, the console versions have not received a more advanced release.
“That’s still not great on like that never got like a fancy console version. I think it’s still good on PC, but it never got a fancy version on console,” Middler added.
The discussion initially raised the possibility that a cleaned-up version of Metal Gear Solid V could involve restoring some of the game’s cut content. However, Middler clarified that the information he had heard points towards a more straightforward technical upgrade.
“I think the idea would be they just do like a 60 fps version on modern consoles and tie that with Revengeance,” he said.
This would potentially make Metal Gear Solid V the technical upgrade component of the collection, while Metal Gear Rising Revengeance would finally receive an official release as part of the modern Metal Gear line-up.
There could nevertheless be complications surrounding Revengeance. PlatinumGames developed the game rather than Konami’s internal teams, meaning the rights and arrangements required for a modern re-release could be a factor. The podcast discussion acknowledged that PlatinumGames is still operating, but no details regarding any potential agreement are known.
Middler also suggested that a third collection could potentially represent the final volume in this particular Master Collection project. He said Konami could use the collection to cover the remaining major games before deciding what comes next for the franchise.
“That’s what I’d always heard cuz this is the third one would be the last one they can do cuz they’ve done all the games and then they’ll see what they go forward with in terms of like the Delta remakes and stuff,” Middler said.
The rumour comes as Konami continues expanding the Metal Gear series across modern platforms. Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 recently brought Metal Gear Solid 4 to platforms beyond its original PlayStation 3 release, ending its long-standing exclusivity to Sony’s previous-generation console.
However, there is currently no official announcement for Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 3. Middler presented the information as something he had heard rather than confirmed information from Konami, and explicitly cautioned that it could prove to be inaccurate.
