The Metro Redux Next-Gen Update will launch this month, bringing a range of technical improvements to Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux. The free update will arrive on PC on October 22, followed by consoles on October 29.
The update is available at no additional cost to existing owners of both games on Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is not a remake or full remaster, with the original Redux presentation and aesthetic being retained while adding improvements for modern hardware.
All platforms will receive support for 4K textures, alongside improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio and additional environmental detail. The update also includes community-requested bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
On consoles, the update adds native support for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. Console players can access true 4K at 60FPS and upscaled 4K at 120FPS with compatible display hardware, alongside improved lighting, shadows and particle effects.
PlayStation 5 Pro will receive PSSR support, while Xbox Series X will support TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing. Xbox platforms will also receive Spatial Audio, while DualSense Adaptive Triggers and Xbox Impulse Triggers will be supported. The update additionally introduces hardware tessellation and runtime displacement, Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode on PlayStation.
On PC, the update adds DLSS and spatial audio, alongside further community bug fixes and requested quality-of-life improvements. Xbox Handheld and Xbox Play Anywhere support are also included.
The announcement comes as the Metro franchise reaches 50 million copies sold worldwide. Full patch notes detailing the technical changes and platform-specific features will be released alongside the update.
